Winning the Daytona 24 Hours is a dream for every car brand. This dream turned into reality. For the first time in history of Italian sports car manufacturer, Lamborghini, it managed to win this most significant race in the US. The Austrian GRT Grasser Racing Team achieved this historic victory in the GTD class with drivers Rolf Ineichen (CHE), Mirko Bortolotti (ITA), Franck Perera (FRA) and Rik Breukers (NLD) behind the wheel of the #11 Lamborghini Huracán GTD. In one of the most thrilling races of the past years, Lamborghini, Mercedes, Honda, Lexus and Audi were battling for victory, all on the same lap from the very beginning. Thanks to two faultless stints by Mirko Bortolotti on Sunday and an impeccable job, both technically and from a driving perspective, by his team-mate and the entire Grasser crew after having had to start from the back of the field due to failing to pass the ‘engine stall test’ during post-qualifying tech, the GRT Grasser Lamborghini Huracán with Mirko Bortolotti behind the wheel was in front after 752 laps. Mirko Bortolotti: “A moment for life. Yes, I cried after crossing the finish line. For me, this is the most beautiful success in my career as a professional driver to date!” Rolf Ineichen: “It is an enormous gift when you are allowed to stand on the top step of the podium at Daytona. An unbelievable achievement by my team-mates and the entire GRT Grasser team. Getting four Lamborghinis to finish within a fortnight (Dubai and Daytona), and two of them on the podium, is a masterpiece both from a technical and a human perspective.” Team owner Gottfried Grasser was overwhelmed: “I simply can’t find words anymore. There are just no words to describe what it is to win one of the world’s most famous races after having started from last place on the grid. Completing 24 hours without any problems is an achievement by the entire team and the drivers. Our second Lamborghini Huracán, the #19 with Ezequiel Perez Companc (ARG), Christian Engelhart (DEU), Christoph Lenz (CHE), Louis Machiels (BEL) nd Max Van Splunteren (NLD) also finished the race in 13th place. We are proud!” With third place in the Dubai 24 Hours a fortnight ago and victory at Daytona, the GRT Grasser team scored two major achievements in January right away! Now, the GRT Grasser team is continuing its preparations for the rest of the 2018 motorsport season during which it will be competing in the Blancpain Endurance and the Blancpain Sprint Series as well as the ADAC GT MASTERS.
